Davey’s Bay cliff collapse – keep clear!

If your planning a stroll on the beach at Davey’s Bay, keep well clear of the base of the cliff! A chunk of the cliff face, around 30m long, collapsed onto the beach a few days ago, and it appears that another large slab is likely to fall.

Baykeeper says it’s all Selwyn’s Fault! The Davey’s Bay cliff is is on the line of the geological faultline running south west from Hampton Park to Cape Schanck. The small earth tremor that occurred in Port Phillip in March of this year is likely to have weakened the cliff; and saturating rains in recent weeks would have expanded the clay content, eventually causing the collapse.
