What a fantastic evening I had at the recent Keep Australia Beautiful Victoria awards. Got to catch up with friends and colleagues, had a great view of the MCG watering system like an army of spotlit robots on the march, listened to a classy string trio, ate some top tucker, learned about the great things Councils and communities are doing for the environment, and heard from some inspiring young people. So around 10.15pm I left for home thinking it just couldn’t get any better. Then at 10.20 it was announced that I’d received the Dame Phyllis Frost Award. I sure didn’t see that one coming!
I’m honoured and humbled by the award. It has given me pause to reflect on the hundreds of unsung people who have shared the journey with me over the years and provided inspiration and practical support. To all those people who have made a stand for the Bay in any way, I salute you. I must thank whoever put my name into the hat, the KABV team, and my friend and colleague Cr Janet Bolitho for stepping in to accept the award on my behalf. To see more KABV Awards
