Months of painstaking planning paid off on Sunday May 17/09 as more than 5 thousand people put their body on St Kilda Beach to spell out a powerful message from an 11 year old schoolgirl (go Sophie!!!).
The sign was around 350 metres long with each letter being 20 metres high. National news coverage of the sign sent a clear message to politicians, reminding them of their moral duty to ensure a safe climate for future generations.
In a clever switch, the sign then changed to read OUR FUTURE IS IN OUR HANDS to urge us all to take personal action, not just rely on politicians!
Congratulations to each and every one who hit the beach to contribute to the success of the event. The St Kilda HUMAN SIGN was a conceived and delivered by Locals in Victoria’s Environment (LIVE) and Bayside Climate Change Action Group (BCCAG) with support from Port Phillip EcoCentre and Cool Melbourne.
