The 2015 ‘Summer by the Sea’ program (brought to you by Coastcare Victoria and Parks Victoria) is providing free activities on the coast during January. The wide range of activities include 14 seashell safaris conducted by Port Phillip Baykeeper on beaches around the Bay.
The Seashell Safaris focus on finding and recording each different type of shell on the beach, combining a stroll on the beach with simple survey methods to discover the local sea life. Although people of all ages enjoy the Seashell Safaris the activity is especially suited to families with young kids.
Baykeeper kicked off the Seashell Safaris surveys in 2009 and has found every beach has something special. By regularly repeating the shell surveys over many years in the same location allows us to note if any changes are occurring. Each time we go, the more we know!
