Strombus urceus – found in Port Phillip Bay!
Coastcare Victoria and Parks Victoria are up to their old tricks again… coordinating a fantastic range of fun and free marine activities on coasts across Victoria in January. It’s bound to be the best summer we’ll have all year…. so why not hit the beach?? Every beach is different, and you might see something surprising, such as the shell recently found in a Baykeeper shoreline shell survey with a local primary school.
The student who spotted this one was truly proud to learn they’d found the only one of this species in more than 100 shoreline surveys around the Bay. This find is particularly interesting as the species is known to occur in the Central Indo West Pacific region… not in Australian waters let alone Port Phillip Bay.
