Port Phillip Bay has an incredible range of special places that are homes for a rich variety of plants and animals; and McCrae Homestead Coastal Group are a great example of the many community organisations that care for these habitats. And it’s not only the local people who benefit from their efforts.
This pic of an Eastern Rosella at home in a Coast Banksia hollow, with a Crimson Rosella on the outer, highlights the value (and short supply) of mature trees for wildlife that need nesting hollows.
Let’s hope the Crimson Rosie finds a home soon too. Better still, why not join a Coastal Care group near you and help to create and maintain some wonderful wildlife habitat. It’s a whole new take on gardening!
