Just another day on the beach at Observatory Point, pondering the ongoing erosion that accelerated around the same time Portsea beach disappeared. It’s a funny old world when massive and costly coastal erosion coincides with deepening the shipping channel at the Heads, several years later 2 scientific reports link the erosion to the deepening, but the official line remains that deepening had nothing to do with it!
Add to that, a tax-payer funded talk-back radio host breezily assuring his listeners that “all the fuss about channel deepening proved to be unfounded.” To top it off, there’s talk of devolving Federal government environmental approvals to state governments.
But a walk on Blairgowrie back-beach was just the tonic to keep on the bright side, recharge the batteries and keep up the fight. After all, it’s not every day you see the Easter Bilby at the beach!
